It's pretty good. Gunplay is like one of the better retro shooters and the visual style is done well. It takes a lot from other games but on the other hand I found things like the timebombs that freeze enemies and even projectiles in place quite unique. My main gripes are that some of the references already feel dated (you fight a "Karen" in this game and the "go brrrr" meme is used) and the game never reaches the heights of pleasant to look at that the first level does, which looks like a dreamlike hanna-barbera cartoon neighbourhood. Later on it fully embraces the pop culture thing and the enemies follow that and while it ends very strong, I didn't feel nearly as in to what I was looking at.

I bought this game for less than 3£ and got 45 hours of fun playing through up to Post Mortem on Well Done difficulty. It's really good.

The main highlight of this game for me is how the weapons felt unique and powerful, I haven't heard of a game since that has handled dynamite quite this well, and till the very end I was discovering great situations to use the alternate fires on weapons like the spray can and the napalm cannon. You'll be feeling like not only did the developers have great ideas for weapons but that they knew how to make those ideas work in practice. In other games you might forget about your pistol (flare gun) or starting weapon (pitchfork- noticing the good taste and creativity?) after early levels but in Blood, I was using them throughout.

In addition, the visual and sound design is incredible, and despite how often there will be cultists screaming both at you and because of you, you'll never really tire of it. And you'll easily be able to distinguish whether that Cultist is burning to death or if that Zombie is truly down for the count.

As stated before, I went through this game on Well Done difficulty, and that's how I'd recommend experiencing this game if you're well-versed on retro shooters, though the first episode felt a bit cruel for an introduction to the game, so you may want to move on to Well Done once you're onto Episode 2 and have the hang of things. There will be some unkind enemy placements along the way, and ♥♥♥♥ those stone gargoyles I'll cheese them every time rather than deal with their bullet spongey ass, but if you're anything like me you'll find yourself booting this one up every day for a while to enjoy its deliciously grimy atmosphere and satisfying, expertly crafted arsenal.

There were 6 years between Soul Calibur 5 and 6, and only 3 between Soul Calibur 2 and 3. And the amount new content 3 was able to give us for a single purchase puts the modern game industry to shame. We truly had no idea how good we had it.

Gameplay-wise, HROT is a good game that should be a blast for anyone into retro shooters. One of the most enjoyable parts of the game for me was the bleak atmosphere and mysterious setting but sad part with that is that for me it doesn't really see a satisfying payoff. There's a lot of interesting and quirky moments in HROT but it never really reaches the heights that DUSK, one of its inspirations does.

This game entertained me enough that I didn't regret the £1 I spent on it those years ago. But as somebody who gets buyers remorse easily I wouldn't be happy had I spent 4.

This is my first "trail game". I played normal and "difficult" difficulty and it kept my attention, but overall I felt it was a timesink with good music. I'd hate to see easy, because the only challenge I came across in either playthrough was my allies dying randomly in difficult.
I know the random factor is a big part of what makes these old style games, but it makes my efforts to keep the supplies high and buddies healthy feel pointless when nature calls and they just never return. But maybe the intent was to alleviate the fact that supplies are actually very easy to keep high.
You'll never run out of bullets because for the most part you can just wheel around the zombies and occasionally pop one or two to clear a path (unless you didn't pick the rifle, seriously the shotgun and pistol are worthless, pick them for added difficulty). You'll never run out of food because it's given out in such high amounts when scavenging. You'll never run out of money because scrap sells for so much comparatively to how much you get. The amount of food allows you to wait around forever to restore health and wait for the best passerby trades, keeping your car supplied with fuel and parts for cheap and you well stocked on medkits for when the RNG screws you and you need to stop and heal quickly.
There's also buffs you can get either from auto shops or veterans, either for your car or your survival skills. You'll easily make the money to afford these.

I suppose it's a positive that with proper strategy and resource management you can easily win on the mid-tier difficulties, but this was on my first playthrough of either. And I'm not the smartest guy in the world. It's possible these games just aren't for me, I didn't grow up playing them, but it's also possible this isn't a very good one. Granted at the cheap price it's probably worth a go if you think you'll like it, especially during a sale. It's a neat little time waster that looks and sounds great in my taste, just expect to have to go out of your way to get even a moderate challenge.
