You might think Mini Metro is a quaint artsy puzzle game, but that's wrong... it's more of a simulation roguelike. You need to make sure passengers are delivered to their stations in time, and while this task starts out simple it quickly gets trickier as you're forced to make tough decisions over how to spend your limited resources by the minute.

Gameplay progress is measured in 'weeks', and every completed week presents you with a choice of new resources such as trains with different capacity or new bridges to draw lines across water. Even though each resource can be used in multiple ways, you need to plan ahead in order to have the best possible wiggle room whenever something unexpected happens.

Even though the game has a very limited set of actions, every decision you make has a drawback of some sort, and balancing risks vs rewards must be done constantly. Making a line loop around evens out the waiting times for passengers, but makes extending it awkward or sometimes even impossible. Making a line cover every station means the train can soak up passengers easily, but the time spent letting passengers embark and disembark slows down its overall speed, and if a train gets full in just a few stations' worth of passengers the waiting times further down the line will just explode.

Mini Metro is full of knife-point decisions like that while still managing to be incredibly relaxing, and it's definitely worth a shot no matter what your taste in games is.

A visually and aurally polished game with plenty of stuff to do, but ultimately fails at being fun due to some design flaws making the experience frustrating. Lack of mercy invincibility takes away the leniency the HP bar is meant to offer, losing power-ups randomly each time you're hit not only punishes you doubly for making a mistake, it also distracts you and introduces an element of chance. Finally, your bombs don't even make you temporarily invincible, taking away the ONE thing they're meant for!

It's very hard to describe Ellipsis, but one pretty accurate way is "action puzzle game" - the game is about finding the optimal way around a small level so that you can collect all the objectives without running into an obstacle, but still quickly enough that you can reach the goal before time runs out. Each level takes just a few seconds to beat, but getting the highest ranking requires finding a solution where you spend no time idling or dodging, dashing through cascades of bullets and lasers with several enemies on your tail. Each time you fail, you know exactly why you failed, and through quick iterations of trial and error you figure out what works and what doesn't work on your way towards that elusive 5-star ranking. The game has several worlds with unique gimmicks, which keeps the game fresh throughout, and it comes with a level editor with Workshop support that promises an infinite supply of levels once you've gone through the well over 100 levels in the base game.

Ellipsis is also a very capable art game - there is no text at all in the game, and the way everything is explained by symbolism and actions is executed in a clear and consise way that makes you learn about a new mechanic in every level. Gorgeous particle and light effects, as well as adaptive music made from melodic sound effects caused by all your actions, lead to a game that is hypnotic to play.

Ellipsis is easy to pick up and play. It is also a game you'll easily lose an hour in without even realizing time has passed. If you're looking for an addictive timesink which you can pick up and play in just a couple of seconds whenever you have some time to kill, it's just the thing for you.

Was looking forward to playing this with a friend. 1 hour of trying to get a standard controller to work later, she was still stuck at the title screen. It's too grindy to play alone, and when technical issues STILL get in the way of the multiplayer half a year later, I can't recommend this to anyone.

Oh, and did I mention you need to buy all the DLC in order to be able to unlock all achievements?

To summarize, Disgaea 2 PC does everything the PC port of the first game did, but much better. Apart from including DLCs from all the previous versions of the game - for free, nonetheless - all systems are refined, giving you more combat options and less grinding.
- Every character has a passive ability that gives them something unique, giving you a reason to not just roll with the characters with the best base stats.
-There's special equipment that raises weapon aptitude to S and stat aptitudes to over 100% for each weapon type, making your dreams about gun-toting healers and swordfighting witches a lot more viable! (if you can spare an equipment slot)
-There's a lot more cute monsters this time around! 0w0
- The item world has random Mystery Rooms every few floors and you can cause Dark Courts to appear at certain floors, breaking up the monotony of levelling up items with some bonus rewards, shopping, or minibosses. You even sometimes get a chance to buy Rare and Legendary items, which means you don't need to spend ages looking for a Legendary Cosmic Blade!
-The story is made out of several parallel narratives, which leads to an overall smoother pacing.
- There is no damage from ending a turn lifting an ally, and a stack of characters can do special combo attacks, making the lift/throw system more useful than just quickly moving around.
- There are magical monster weapons now making caster monsters more viable in combat.
-The Demon Rank system is removed, anyone can apply for any Dark Assembly bill... no more need to grind Promotion Exams whenever you want to do something!

And to all of the above, add more secret bosses than ever before and no less than TWO alternate overworlds to unlock (the Dark World and the Land of Carnage) that each adds new challenge to the basic story missions, and you easily have enough content to spend hundreds of hours playing.

A disappointinly linear game with poor balancing, a very short campaign, and watered-down mechanics that promotes running from enemies over fighting them. If you're a long-term fan of the Souls franchise, you could squeeze some enjoyment out of all the shameless fanservice (such as some areas being completely recycled from previous games without it making sense lorewise), but if you're new to the series you should check out Dark Souls 1 (for the worldbuilding) or Dark Souls 2 (for the gameplay) instead.

Some important points:
-PvP invasions prioritize co-oping players, ruining the experience for both parties.
-The Poise system has been removed, making big cool-looking weapons much less useful, especially in PvP.
-Item infusions has been split up in a myriad of different types and must be unlocked separately, most of which make the weapons WEAKER overall.
-One area is reused three times as separate areas with no changes to layout (Firelink Shrine, Untended Graves and Kiln of the First Flame).
-The advanced high-poly rendering shenanigans makes the game run poorly even on high-end machines, especially in multiplayer.
-The Ashes of Ariandel DLC is much shorter than the three DLCs made for DS2 with a mere two bosses, and nothing suggests the second will be any better.
-The overall game design prioritizes punishing the player over putting up a challenge to overcome, with ambushing enemies lacking sound cues and several areas presenting several new enemies at once so that it's not possible to learn their patterns in a safe environment.
-The emphasis on running away makes cheap tactics in PvP matches way too rewarding.

I've played around 80 hours of this game but wished I'd stopped at 10.

Salt & Sanctuary is compared to Dark Souls a lot. There definitely are similarities, but if you'd play S&S to get "more" Dark Souls, you will get disappointed. S&S is more obscure both lore-wise and gameplay-wise, has less items to mess around with, and the loss of a dimension makes movement, perception and spacing less important in favor of twitch reactions and stamina management. However, S&S has "proper" couch co-op, the gameplay feels satisfying, and despite the game overall being worse than the 'real' Souls games, it's still well above average and a pleasure to play.

The main disadvantage of S&S is the systemic obscurity; you will need to have a plan to play properly, and a lot of important decisions you make early on (such as which creed to pick or how to level up skills optimally) are not explained in-game, meaning you can screw yourself over because you could not make an informed decision. While Dark Souls is about "making the best of what you have", Salt & Sanctuary is about "work towards an intended goal". If you're okay with that, or just want an easier game to see if the Dark Souls hype is something you want to get into, S&S is a solid metroidvania well worth the price of admission. Just make sure you bookmark a wiki or two before you embark.

This game is basically like MarioParty with all the messing-stuff-up-for-each-other and none of the minigames, creating a really fast-paced game where a lot of stuff can happen in one turn. There's characters that play better when you just do random stuff and hope for the best, characters better at strategic card use, and characters that excel in combat - interactions between characters, the card deck, stage layout and stage events create a really deep experience that will get you hooked, especially if you've got a bunch of friends around to steal stars from.

If you've ever wished Ocarina Of Time had realistic damage, enemies that didn't spend most of the time being passive and invincible, and undead T-rex as generic enemies, DS2 is the game for you. The Dark Souls series is infamous for being hard and gloomy, but DS2 is the black sheep of the series, being very accessible and VERY (at least comparatively) colorful - not really being a fan of the aestethics of the series, but a huge fan of the gameplay, I can definitely say DS2 is my favorite, and I'd recommend it to any newcomers to the series.

DS2's main draw - other than being completely built around one of the best action RPG battle systems ever - is the customizability and freedom. Your starting class gives you a set of stats and some low-level gear, and that's the end of the limitations... if you want to respec further down the line, it's very much doable, and focusing on one type of combat is as viable as getting a balanced loadout mixing swords and sorcery. In Dark Souls, the stats of your gear doesn't matter as much as how comfortable you are with it - knowing the length of your sword or how many times you can swing it before your stamina is depleted is essential for survival. On the other hand, knowing what elemental infusions deal double damage to the enemies you face doesn't hurt either, and you can play the game competently no matter if you focus on the action part or the RPG part.

You will die, you will lose progress, you will struggle bashing your head against a brick wall over and over. But in the end, you will learn and you will improve, no matter if you realize it or not. Dark Souls isn't about making you FEEL awesome, it's about MAKING you awesome.

TLDR this game is great, get it.
Long version:

Bullet Heaven 2 is a pretty amazing (or, well, at least SLIGHTLY amazing) danmaku game that accounts for both newbies to the genre and veterans. The game is built around bite-sized stages that can be replayed at will, so getting a game over never means you lose progress, and it's the perfect thing to pick up when you want to have fun for 15 minutes... but with almost a hundred of them, you still get a lot of bang for the buck! The harder difficulty settings give you a real challenge, and get so hard I've not managed to clear stage 1-1 on the hardest difficulty yet despite years of casually fiddling with danmakus.

The game also has some nice customization options to let you tailor your experience for your taste... money dropped by enemies can be used to unlock cheats to make the game easier, handicaps to make it harder, and lots of customization options like alternate weapons and characters; each has slightly different play style and switching up characters or weapons to suit the stage you're going to play has a big impact on your experience. You can play co-op with up to 3 friends for an easier or harder time depending on how well you coordinate your attacks, too.

The game doesn't punish you for using cheats and playing it safe, but it rewards you for playing well. Each stage has 3 extra-difficult optional bonus waves accessed if you get enough Perfects on the normal waves, which offer huge score boosts and extra cash for the unlockables; you can unlock hidden bosses and stages in each world, and all the game's achievements also rewards you with a substantial amount of unlockables cash giving you an incentive to achieve them. There's also a bunch of achievements awarded for very silly or stupid-to-attempt things encouraging you to take the game less serious and try things outside your comfort zone, and before you know it, it'll become second nature.

Bullet Heaven 2 combines the best parts of Jamestown's co-op and Touhou's tight bullet pattern design with a small pinch of roguelike elements, and it's pretty unique in the amount of polish and quality it has, but the best parts of it is how accessible it is. You'll probably only play in short, intense bursts, but it feels like you've had fun for hours.
