I wish there was an in-between option because recommending the game is difficult. On one side, it's a brilliantly built thriller, it always keeps you on the edge, and with your guard up, without being an actual horror game. The atmosphere is always creepy and weird and it does a good job of making you intrigued to discover the story, even tho all you really do is walk and walk from one part to the other of a hotel that's built like a labyrinth.

The story itself is strange, and dark if you couldn't figure that out from the title. To keep the tension up there are always little sounds around you, implying the idea that the hotel is haunted. However, there's never a real visual clue for it, or a true in-your-face scare. There's also that one very polarizing and controversial thing in the game, that I'm not gonna mention since the reviews are already full of it. The finale, without spoiling it, in my opinion, is straight-out stupid and makes very little sense.

And then there are the technical issues, which aren't many but are annoying enough. For once, you're kinda forced to use v-sync, not using it will, at least in my case, ripple the image immensely. And then there is the one thing that annoyed me the most, every time there is a small cutscene, there is also a chance that the game image will just bug out, the screen becomes a dark shade of blue and the game completely unplayable anymore. It only happened twice to me, but both times were towards the end of the chapter, which forced me to replay it all. So about 30-40 minutes of my playtime is just me replaying those two chapters, of which one was the very last one.

Overall, I can't say I'd really recommend this game, but it's decent enough at being what it wants to be. The atmosphere is great, but the story and bugs pull it down. I'd say it's a little over a 5/10, but just enough that it's not necessarily something I would recommend against playing.
