I love this game. I've been playing the game since February of 2017, when the game came to Steam. That's when I first heard about it. I remember how much fun I was having when the FF7 collab event came around at that time, and being engrossed with the story ever since. I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy fan, but after picking this game up I could tell that this is something a Final Fantasy game would be. Well, a mobile one, at least.

The thing about this game is that it's a mobile game, which confused a lot of people, myself included. So those that started playing the game on PC were very confused by all the UI and gameplay designs. It's truly meant for mobile, but I think the thing that makes this game more unique than other mobile games is it's quality. Most (free) mobile games are very simple, both graphically and by gameplay design. However, Mobius was one of those games that attempts to break that standard. Okay, it's not the best mobile game for sure, but it's clear that the team behind the game really wanted to make something big here. if you look at some of the cutscenes or gameplay online, you can clearly see there's a lot of work put into everything. The music, the voice acting, the effects/graphics, etc,.

What grinds my gears the most about the game shutting down (and if you didn't know, it is shutting down, probably within a few hours as of this review) is that all of this effort and passion that was put into making the game is just going straight into the garbage. Yes, that's right, down the drain. Gone forever. When the servers go off, the entire game goes too. The only thing that will be saved is anything that is posted about the game online, or any cutscenes uploaded (which most, if not all) onto YouTube or something. Every single piece of beautifully composed melody, every single stunning work of art made for the cards, every single written story, just gone.

There's no clear information online whether or not the game will be saved as an offline experience. I think all we got was some teases and winky faces from the community manager on r/MobiusFF, which may or may not be completely unrelated to Mobius Final Fantasy at all. This game could easily become a singleplayer experience with all the online stuff simply taken out. It wouldn't be too hard to think about. Just get rid of the microtransaction stuff and give us an easier way to get magicite/summon tickets. I'm pretty sure there was a thread on r/MobiusFF by another fan which details what would actually change if the game went into an offline experience, so go read up on that. Yes, especially you dev team, you should go read that too.

And that is simply why I'm just giving this a negative review. The game on it's own is fantastic, has a good story, and has some amazing collab events (which the Japanese version even has more of!!!) which are straight up the best thing about this game. Yes, there is no doubt about it that this game is probably just a gacha game in disguise. However, I have spent NOTHING on this game. Not a single cent. I was able to progress through basically all the game had to offer. Like I said before, this game is supposed to really be a mobile game, which explains my little hours on PC. But I played this game so much, I pretty much played this game throughout the majority of my high school career. There's sooo much to really see and learn about in this game, it's a good time waster for sure.

But sadly, I don't think anything I say matters at this point. As much as I wish I can continue to praise this game, it has to stop at some point, just like service for this game. So with all that said, I'm leaving a negative review UNLESS they make the game into an offline game. Even if they just somehow remove the mobile versions and leave the PC one here. That's fine by me. I just don't want all the talent put into this game stuffed into the drain and to be forgotten.

Cannot skip the login screen without having to sign into or create a new Bethesda.net account.

To play offline you need to completely go offline on Steam in order to skip the login screen, which was said nowhere by any official means.

It makes no sense why they couldn't just add a go offline button on the login screen.

EDIT 5/18/2020: I saw some threads about how people are able to get their refunds despite being over the refund requirements or whatever. I don't know how you guys are doing it, my request to get a refund has been denied twice. Steam really needs to make it so that everyone is able to get a refund after a major update comes out so stuff like this doesn't happen. The fact that publishers can push out updates like this one way past the refund date will just pave the way for more future outrages towards many more publishers like Bethesda. This could no longer be just a Bethesda problem, this could be a Steam-wide problem now.

EDIT 5/14/2020: You all laughed and made fun of me about the whole Bethesda.net login thing, now with the game's latest update, the DRM has been enforced so hard that it now has kernel level access to your PC. I also heard some stuff about the next master level being Twitch Prime exclusive. As for me, I know I can't request a refund now, but all I can really do now is immediately uninstall the game and not touch it beyond that. This will be the last time I give any money to Bethesda. We all deserved this.

EDIT 3/22/2020: I don't know when this was patched in or if it was in since launch or whatever. But now you'll be getting the usual Denuvo pop-ups[cdn.discordapp.com] when trying to play the game offline now. Just launch the game normally on Steam and then go back offline. I've never seen a new AAA game try to scum you out so badly like this.

I've also noticed that if you own the deluxe edition you should have access to some special "master levels" that you can play. However, I do not see any extra levels at all. I can't really verify this myself but I believe they are totally gatekeeping all DLC away from you if you are playing offline. Totally scummy and I hope that when the rest of the DLC comes out I am able to play it. Otherwise the deluxe edition will be a total waste of money.

And another unrelated thing to the login stuff, but there's a CTD when using the computer in the HUB or whatever it's called when trying to play Doom 1 & 2. The reason is because they actually somehow forgot to include the IWADS, so you'll have to manually insert the IWADS yourself if you want it to not crash. How they managed to forget to include these two files completely astonishes me. Wow, they actually made a hotfix not long after. Still can't believe they managed to forget that though.

Probably the most fun I've had with a Castlevania style game in recent years. It's obviously not Castlevania, but it is. If you're a huge classic Castlevania fan go ahead and pick this one up. Though it's probably way too short and easy for players that know what they're doing, even on the hardest skill level and mode, other than that it's super good.

This review was supposed to be made a few weeks ago, but I got sidetracked. Sorry about that.

Tl;dr pros and cons version:
Pros:
  • Sounds and graphics are great, fit the style perfectly
  • Music selection is good too
  • Mixture of many different roguelike elements that work well together
  • Combat is whacky and can get very chaotic...
Cons:
  • ...Which can also lead to completely unfair fights
  • Upgrades are sometimes helpful, but some can completely hinder you
  • SO. MANY. BUGS. Read full review for details
  • Not really a con, but low spec users won't have a chance with this game
  • Nearly unplayable due to all the bugs!

Full Review:

The Eerie Adventures Of Kally is an interesting game. The art style and overall story has that sort of old fashioned dark cartoony feel, which I do love very much, as I always enjoy games that stand out like this one. The gameplay itself is what people might mostly expect, the combat is super whacky, fighting crazy monsters and unique enemies while sometimes tables might be thrown around and explosions just go off everywhere, which is great and can generate a couple of laughs. At the same time the game tries to mix horror elements, which is just meh in my opinion. Regardless though, I really enjoy this game, or rather, I WANT to enjoy it. What really stops me from giving this game a positive review (or just overall enjoying this game) is that this game is just nearly unplayable.

Countless glitches and crashes repeatedly make me lose my progress from various amounts of playtime spent on the same parts I keep having to play over and over, numerous amounts of unfair combat quirks and jankiness that makes the game a lot harder than it should be, even while just playing on the easiest difficulty setting, and all my video settings I set in the options menu just refuse to save, causing total confusion as of why the game starts to stutter and my inputs get delayed, and why that annoying film grain just keeps coming back despite me turning it off every single time I restart the game. I really wanted to like this game, because it looks like something I'd like to play and enjoy, but the game literally refuses to let me finish the first chapter, no matter what I do.

As I said in the beginning, the game itself is unique, it's pretty much everything you might just want out of a horror cartoon roguelike or whatever crazy hybrid of a game this is trying to be. And from what I've seen so far, it manages to blend it all together very well. I haven't seen too much of the game because of the previously mentioned technical problems, so I'm basically only reviewing pretty much only the beginning part of the game. Anyways, most of the time you'll spend in this game are mostly fighting a wide array of enemies in a style like most beat-em-ups. Some of the combos are nice and some of the enemies can be challenging, if not, can even get a little crazy. However, eventually it gets to a point where it becomes nearly unplayable because of how unfair the enemies are.

I think it’s important to note that I have an extremely hard time to decide which aspects of the game are designed in a way to purposely annoy you, and which aspects are purely unintentional and only cause frustration. This is the case when whenever I always play the fighting parts of the game. The combat is just awkward most of the time, and most of it is caused by, once again, the previously mentioned bugs. I can understand wanting to make the combat silly for the fun aspect of things. Like for example, fighting a bunch of pirate dudes with guns and skeletons throwing bones at you while explosions and tables just fly around the room everywhere, while a little cute dog ally you saved a couple of rooms back starts attacking everything in sight and bones just start flying around the room while comical sound effects constantly play. That’s the kind of crazy stuff you’ll want and expect to see in this game.

However, what isn’t fun at all is when those same pirate dudes and skeletons constantly throw projectiles at you in any direction they want while you can only shoot projectile weapons left or right, and every single time a projectile hits your character you just end up being stuck in the air for a bit, until your dog ally for some strange reason always constantly moves directly right where you’re going to land, causing you to continuously fall on your dog, making you stuck in the air much long than you need to be, and is clearly unintentional behavior. That’s just not fun anymore. As I said before, some of the enemies in this game are just straight up unfair. Such as those big blue guys that stomp the ground, which is somehow completely unavoidable even when you jump over the stomp attack. The game was so unfairly difficult that when I had originally started off on Normal I decided to switch it over to Easy, and even then, I still can’t progress because of how unfair the game is.

And I haven’t even talked about the so many bugs, glitches and softlocks I’ve encountered in this game, oh god no. It ranges from all sorts of stupid crap, such as video settings refusing to save, clearing a room when there are clearly still enemies in the room, pausing the game doesn’t actually pause the game meaning projectiles can still hit you, multiple instances of infinite loading screens, having zero health left but not dying until you pick up health, I’ve even had a problem where I couldn’t even throw stuff in the direction I was looking at, and this really strange event where after I had died, there was this nurse just standing there, so I went to talk to her and then the game just completely crashed. There are so many bugs and glitches in this game that not only is just generally super annoying but caused me so much progress to be lost. The worst part about it is that there’s much more bugs in the game than my examples listed above. As I said before, I literally cannot even progress because of how many times I’ve lost my progress due to bugs.

The game itself has so much potential to be great, but with all these problems currently I honestly can’t recommend playing this game until all the bugs are fixed and whatnot. Maybe when this game gets the patches it really needs I might just be able to revisit it again. Also, before I end this review, I’d like to point a couple of things. On the store description it says that this is a “BETA build currently” and new content will be added constantly. Not to step on anyone’s toes or whatever, but shouldn’t this game be in early access then if that's the case? Another thing I’ve noticed is that there’s a JoJo voice clip… Pretty sure putting that in a game with a pricetag is a bad idea, yeah?

Anyways that's about it. Can't really talk much about anything else in the game, because I'm unable to see more of it. Maybe I'll try it again some other time. You know, when it's fixed.

Honestly a good remaster for a classic PSP game. Visuals have been upgraded heavily and they even added some new modes to play around in. This is probably just a me thing but if this game had gotten an online versus mode then I'm pretty sure there'd be a ton of more people playing and stuff. Totally recommended to those who have played and are fans of the PSP original.

Normally I would be okay with them charging for this if it did what it intended, and it does for the most part yeah, but it seems like there was barely any effort put in for such a small addition that should've been either in the base game to begin with or with a free update, not something that should be paid for.

For anyone that is somehow even curious to what this does still, all it actually does is make any other party member currently in your 2nd and 3rd slot follow you around. That's it. Seems pretty simple right?

No. For some reason, it just isn't that simple. For starters, basically any tight space will cause tons of trouble for the party followers as they'll get stuck on pretty much anything. Seriously, try going to somewhere like Duty Space and just move casually throughout the dungeon, and see how easily they get stuck. I get it, they're not supposed to be perfect or whatever, but you'd think they would figure out how to move around corners instead of almost always just walking forwards all the time and getting stuck on a wall trying to follow you. The followers are extremely brain-dead.

But what happens when they get stuck? Well, they simply just teleport to you, right? Well yeah, they do, but for some reason the game has to do like this blur/frame-stop thing, and then flash the entire screen in white very quickly when they teleport to you. Not really the worst problem or anything, but if the followers constantly get stuck like I mentioned before, then it seriously will get annoying and more noticeable. Not sure why they can't just simply teleport behind you without all the crappy effects.

For obvious reasons, the followers will not initiate fights with encounters or let alone alert enemies when near. Also, I believe they jump higher than you can, even when you have the "Jumping Star" Plan enabled. Though, it's a bit difficult for me to tell, not that it really matters anyways, just felt like pointing that out. Oh, and any costumes applied to any following character will work too, of course.

Again, I'd really prefer if this was just given for free or included with an update, rather than having to pay a small amount just for a small basic addition (which again seems to be inserted into the game with barely any effort) that other similar games usually have for free in the base game and with mostly less issues.

Honestly just seems like a bunch of assets thrown together without any effort or thought put into it. Also, by default, the HUD is disabled, you'll have to press F11 to enable it.

Small corridors, small amounts of enemies, small play time, small review. Don't play this.

EDIT: Also, it's very misleading, as it says "Story" and "Achievement" in the description so, yeah, that's great too. Glad to know scamming is still a thing on Steam. Neato.

EDIT 2/7/2017: Is it just me or did he edit the game's description and just added "(soon)" right next to the achievement text we just found out he's actually scamming? Funny.

This game wasn't THAT bad at all. I can see why everyone can call it a "FNAF Clone" or whatever, but the developer has a lot of cool things going on with the whole real photography for graphics/gameplay idea. I always liked that idea for some odd reason, and I totally respect the style the developer is going for.

Now with that said, the game wasn't that good because it sure does have a lot of flaws. The graphics shown on screen displaying how much sanity you have doesn't really look too good. I'm the kind of person that can easily get jumpscared, so the jumpscares got me pretty much almost about every single time I saw one, because I'm a stupid moron that can't seem to handle simple jumpscares.

The difficulty increased at a steady rate, and Chris was nice enough to tell you almost exactly what was going to happen that night. There wasn't really anything I noticed that made any of the later nights too extremely difficult, but I'm pretty sure some people will be surprised on a much later night how fast one of the "crazies" will become.

I know that making stop motion sort of animation is extremely difficult to make perfect, but the transitions between the laptop and the door seem a bit slow. Closing and opening the door is fine, but I feel like in the time it takes to make a transition between the two, a "crazie" will probably be fast enough to get me in that amount of time on later nights.

So to sum this all up or for a tl;dr:

Is this the best game ever?

No. Or at least I don't think so.

Could the developer improve and make an even better game?

Most likely for sure. I mean, this isn't his first title at all, so using his current skills from making his previous games and learning by criticism from comments and reviews the developer could totally make a game that is ten times better and surely might amaze me for the most part, for others, probably not.

Should I buy this game? I'm curious.

If you're looking for a quality game to keep you entertained for a couple days, most likely no. Honestly, if you want to support the developer, go right ahead, but don't expect too much from it, I only had about an hour or two worth of gameplay with it, but I don't feel like it was wasted at all.

I'm not trying to be an ass-kisser here, yeah, I totally agree with most people, this game isn't that good at all and even though I made a lot of jokes about it here and there with friends and such, it wasn't really that terrible, and I really love the developer's efforts on making these types of games, which is why I'm most likely going to see what the developer could make next on Steam. I also heard the developer is actually a really nice guy and handles these harsh reviews fairly well, which is another reason why I think he's a pretty cool dude.

P.S: I got this game as a gift from a good friend of mine. If I could pay $0.99 to support the developer, I totally would.

Oh, I have another question for those who've beaten the game: How far did you guys get past Night 10? I've only been able to get to Night 14 if I remember correctly. There should totally be some sort of high score system or something.
