I used to hate this game originally but on a 2nd playthrough I learnt to like it and overcome the things I didn't like.
Don't get me wrong; there's flaws and a lot of filler. But it's still a likeable Yakuza game with good moments.

Holds up pretty well. It is a bit more silly than the other Max Payne games and sometimes has the writing of an 80s anti-drug ad, but that's what gives it that charm.
It's a great concoction of things that just work - And at that time have hardly been tried. Like comic book style games or dual wield slow-mo action.

Seems like a really cool game, but I jumped the gun and didn't really expect it to be an enthusiast-grade puzzle game that took a degree of patience and thinking outside the box.

Just let's ignore the audio logs that sound like r/atheism posts

Seems to be another one of those late 2000s gems that holds up very well but flew right under the radar.

People are quick to call this a GTA clone but it's got Just Cause elements before Just Cause became well known for putting you into a world and just letting you blow up the enemies' depots.
I like that whilst this game is centered around the German occupation in France, it's not so much about the real war as it is about the urban espionage stuff.

In short; the game houses GTA-esque short/simple missions combined with Just Cause's zealous destruction of enemy assets.

You get what you pay for. It ain't groundbreaking or high-budget but it's short-and-sweet.
This did seem like a prototype prequel for the sequel, FUR Squadron Phoenix, which does look like a lot more.

A great couple of games compiled into one executable for not even the full price of an AAA game

A mixed bag and a change of pace to be sure.
I don't find it totally unenjoyable though.

It's a huge shift in themes. Maybe it's me, but this game makes me think of the new DooM entries, rather than a Halo military story of trying to save humanity from aliens alongside your fellow army.
The story turns completely crackpot too fast, ancient aliens level stuff. But I'm not gonna speak on that too much in a review.

Despite being a prequel, it still manages to tell a pretty good story of war and tragedy.
It directly precedes Halo CE, so I'm also feeling some mechanics from Halo CE and 2 that they brought back again for this one for that classic prequel feel.

It also feels like they really gave it their all to end on a good note, being Bungie's last Halo game and all.

Great game
It's a change of pace for sure. We go from mystical deep space war to urban stuff on the ground. Naturally they do well in this game to worldbuild the history of the city. Kinda feels like a different game sometimes, but still a great one.
I fancy the slightly non chronological approach of switching between linear missions and the open world city sections allowing you to explore before progressing.

If you get the game now you get all DLC free. And whilst these aren't groundbreaking weapons, for a newbie starter every scrap counts.
