The good:

Graphics
Story
Soundtrack
The bad:

Desing of Momoko (well the breasts, I'm not an hug fan of them when they're not really corresponding with the body)
Lack of choice: five or six choices to do
And with the lack of choice, you're getting bored with all the dialogues
Summary:
Sakura Beach is the first Sakura game I've installed. While it's a polished title, it's not quite what I was expecting. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman and not a man or if it's because I'm more used to action or if it's just that I prefer visual novels with more choices and paths to take.

Seiji is dreaming about stars to the point that he's forgetting that he has friends, Momoko and Ayumi. Both of them dragged him for a week on a beach and are trying to convey a message. Will Seiji understand?

The story itself is well-written: some good old "pervert" joke, when Seiji is not even one, the guy suddenly aware that these girls may be interested in more than friendship, some good poetry when Seiji is speaking about stars, etc..

However, it's in the gameplay that Sakura Beach is clearly lacking. Like Blue Rose or Shan Gui, you have a lot of dialogues. Contrary to Shan Gui, you don't have any cultural reference, apart the stars. Contrary to Blue Rose, the choices are really limited. In other words, too much dialogue kills the game. It's the same with Sakura Beach. That's the main negative point: apart siding with Momoko or Ayumi, which is determining your ending, for what 4 or 5 times, you don't any other thing to do. I understand that a visual novel isn't always about choices but I would have preferred more freedom for the player to choose his path than just waiting it after I don't know how many lines of dialogues and fan service pictures.

Sakura Beach, while being clearly in fan service (Momoko has huge breasts, contrary to Ayumi who seems more human compared to her friend for example), is still well designed. I loved the graphics and the backgrounds. And to top that, the music was really good.

Clearly, I liked Sakura Beach a lot but the fact that there were many dialogues before a choice is killing for me the game. I would have preferred a little more action (and when I say that, I mean, more choices, not anything else). Is this huge negative point outweighting everything? Sadly, yes. Blue Rose was more interesting in terms of plot but the length of the dialogue bored me to death. It's the same here. I was bored.

However, it's not because I'm rating it down that you shouldn't give a chance to it if you like visual novels with few choices and with a good story. However, I would wait for a bundle or for a discount.

Early Access Review
