I had a huge problem with Witcher 3. Still never beaten it. The combat is seriously lacking imho, so I used combat mods to make the game fun for me. Then they released their huge patches that break the mods. So I literally had to wait for them to stop updating the game 3 years after launch before I could even play the game, but by then, the original mod author 3 years ago, got frustrated of having his mod always break and having to fix it, so he stopped updating it.

X-Com 2: War of the Chosen. A-♥♥♥♥♥♥-mazing DLC. Worth every penny. They should've charged $60, but myself I found it hard to pay $40 for it, because of my past experience with DLC and what they mean to me.

Day-Z Standalone, launched for $30 back in 2014 and has said it will continue to raise the price over the years as it gets closer to launch. Day-Z Standalone launched in Alpha, I mean Alpha Alpha. No other Early Access game launches in Alpha, they all launch in Beta and call it Alpha and thus redefining the term Alpha & Beta to gamers.

EU4's DLC is great. I remember a friend bought EU4 on sale and a DLC to go with it, I yelled and said "only one!? you should've asked me!!" - cause there's some great lists that show the bang-for-buck for each EU4 DLC.

I personally think people spread misinformation about the prices by not giving the whole story, for one thing there are alot of content in the DLC, and second, the DLC is completely optional because of how the Multi-player is set up. If anything, i think the bigger problem is how the frequent updates with content makes modding harder, modders improve replayability and everything.

Thank god for Paradox & 2K. I love EU4 & XCom. Just wish more people did as well, so they could lower DLC prices.

There's an est. 250 million PC owners on Steam, 60 million PS4 owners, 30 million XBox owners. My guess, because strategy games don't work on consoles, the majority of AAA pubs ignore them. But before the Internet & Steam, we needed AAA pubs to market PC games. I would have never gotten SimCity 2000 or Age of Empires if I didn't see a commercial on TV for them. To this day, there are so many amazing, pre-2004 games that I have yet to play because the publisher didn't advertise them loud enough for me to know of them. I just found out about Industry Giant 2 this week. (Yes, I miss JoWood.)

Look at PUBG, they didn't need a AAA publisher to fund the development, they just needed a super smart strategy to take the world by storm.

I got more to say about Indie pubs, Early Access and AAA pubs. But my original point in the thread was that AAA publishers aren't creating as many new innovating video games as we find in the indie market. Take a look in their game portfolio on metacritic, how many of those releases are video games and not just DLC, how many of them are new unique games, never before seen? Compare that lsit to a smaller publisher.

2 upcoming indie strategy games that maybe good if given enough love: Rise of Industry & Voxel Tycoon. Are these new unique strategy games that will help grow and influence the strategy genre? Time will tell.

Paradox Interactive isn't AAA? I thought it was because it is a splitoff of the other Paradox company (can't remember the name) All the others, except Age of Empires, isn't even a wargame, it is strategy i guess.

Paradox Interactive isn't a AAA publisher. I don't know if AAA publishers even do strategy anymore. Industry Giant 2 or Capitalism 2 didn't have a AAA publisher. Factorio didnt. SimCity and Age of Empires did.

No offense to Indies, but i don't think they have the resources or brainpower that AAA games do to make strategy games, and i never seen a single Indie game a complex as, for example, Crusader Kings II. (I personally prefer depth over the more competitive nature of Civ, both are good though).

Strategy Genre, hell I'm playing Civ atm which is published by 2K, technically not a major publisher, but I love Civ. I've never seen microtransactions or season passes in a Civ game.

I see your point. New players to the strategy genre, they pickup Civ, then months later when they want another civ-like experience, they start asking what games are like-Civ? Not only does Civ introduce people to the genre because it's big & loud, but it is used as a blueprint for other games if they want to siphon x-Civ players.

Dice, backed by EA, announced the next Battlefield game will either have a Battle Royale mode or be focued on Battle Royale. Before this point, no major publisher had much to do with anything Battle Royale until the non-major publishers fleshed out the genre.

Your arguement against AAA's i only relevant to certain genres, fact is, if there were no AAA games, there would barely be anything of a strategy genre, the little indie games populating it that are still good would be few.

Yeah, I have been holding off on Subnautica on Steam (stil playing on XBone from time to time, a bit frustrated with how far behind it has been with updatesmonths instead of days like TLD was with XBone updates). My rig is a toaster, above minimum specs, but performance issues go to be so frustrating I had to just step away until they started the optimization passes. Once it goes gold, other games will lose time to Subnautica for a while, lol! But your feelings of TWOM feeling unfinished... I think that is why I started and stopped playing it when i did. There have been some updates, but I have not checked the game out again. Might be time to give it another go.

Rather than spam the TLD thread I figured I'd see if I could post here about TWOM. I haven't gotten the new DLC or Season Pass yet, bu have 7 friends who got the Season Pass, and have played the first DLC already. They all said it was a new Story, somewhat short, but good. But I do not think it will address some of the issues you pointed out in your review. I still haven't had time to play the entire game yet, so I can't say whether I agree with what you brought up or not. I really should play it while I am taking a break from TLD on Steam (waiting to see what the December update brings us...).
