Lords of Xulima


Concept:
An isometric, turn-based, single-player, 2D role-playing game that is heavily influenced by Old School Classics such as Ultima, Baldur’s Gate, Might & Magic and Wizardry Games. It is set on a mythical lost continent called Xulima, where the world makers lived in ancient times. The game features a vast, challenging world where you will lead Gaulen the Explorer and five of his companions on an epic journey filled with the struggles of Gods and Humans. Create your party with up to six characters, choosing between 9 classes and more than 100 unique skills.

Graphics: ★★★☆☆
Attractive hand-drawn 2D graphics and 3D Pre-rendered models. Overall it looks pleasing.

Sound: ★★★☆☆
The music is reminiscent of some of the classic older titles and the sound effects and ambient sounds are nicely done.

Playability: ★★★½☆
Easy controls and interface with an easy to follow Tutorial.

Entertainment: ★★★★☆
If your familiar with games of the past like the Ultima series or the Might & Magic games, you will love this title as it takes you down memory lane. Those who are new to these type of games will get to experience the games that revolutionized the gaming industry.

Replay Value: ★★★½☆
I feel the game has a Good replay value since you party consists of 6 members and there are a total of 9 possible Classes to mix and match with 100 different skills to choose.

MY PERSONAL REVIEW

***This is Based off the Beta and Early version of the Game***

The Game is a throwback to some of the great classics of the past all mixed into one Game. It has a Top-down view like the Ultima games and hand drawn backgrounds like the Baldurs Gate series. Combat switches to a turn-based combat system with a first-person view like Wizardry and the Might & Magic series. You start the game with six party members five of which you can create manually or you can simply click quick start to have the game create them for you. You have 9 classes to choose from each with there own skills. The game offers a lockpicking mini-game which I felt kept me entertained. Playing the early released version of the game is quite fun and I definitely recommend it to both those familiar and unfamiliar with these type of games.

Might & Magic X - Legacy


Concept:
A Dungeon crawling old school hack-and-slash RPG set in the Heroes of Might and Magic World.

Graphics: ★★★☆☆
Not Skyrim, but for a 3D grid-base dungeon crawler it looks pleasing.

Sound: ★★★☆☆
The music is reminiscent of some of the classic Might & Magic titles as well as the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Sound effects are simple and repetitive.

Playability: ★★★★☆
Easy controls and interface like its predecessors.

Entertainment: ★★★☆☆
If your familiar with games of the past like the Wizardry series or the Might & Magic games, you will love this title as it takes you down memory lane but for those who are new to these type of games may get bored as the gameplay may get repetitive.

I feel the game has a High replay value especially since your party consists of 4 members and there are a total of 12 possible Classes to mix and match with the 4 races.

MY PERSONAL REVIEW


The Game takes place a few years after the events of Might & Magic: Heroes VI. Might & Magic X - Legacy takes place on the Agyn Peninsula. It's a throwback to the hack-and-slash RPGs of old and no knowledge of the past series is required to play it. You can create a Four person party consisting of 4 Races and 12 Classes to select from. While the party size is locked at four, players can pick up additional hirelings to fill specialized needs that give certain buffs or the pack horse that adds a considerable amount of inventory space which I found a must. The classes offer lots of skills and spells to choose from. The individual skills can be ranked up starting at novice and going up to Grandmaster. Some of the spells you get at Grandmaster are devastating but the road to get there is a long one. If you liked the Diablo style loot drops than you’ll like this game as there is a ton of different types of loot. The game adds some puzzle and riddle solving to take away from the constant combat grind. Players can roam towns to find various power ups, coins, and quests that send them out into the wilderness. The game offers about 60+ Hours of play time if you explore every nook and cranny and take the time to read all the Lore it offers. This game is nothing like the Heroes of might & Magic series but if you liked games of the past like the Wizardry or Eye of the Beholder series or even the new Legend of Grimrock than this is the game for you.

Game of Thrones

Concept:
An RPG taking place in George R.R. Martin’s rich fantasy world. The story takes place just before
the events that happen in the First Book and HBO’s T.V. Show Season 1.
Graphics: ★★★☆☆
The graphics are pretty good as are the recreations of the scenes from the T.V. show. The games camera or FOV are too close and feel very cramped and claustrophobic however with a few simple tweaks the game improves immensely.(See Below for instructions on how to tweak your game)

Sound: ★★★★☆
The epic musical soundtrack from the T.V. show is great throughout the entire game. The voice acting is also done nicely.

Playability: ★★☆☆☆
The gameplay combat is clunky, you set up actions in a three-slot queue, then watch your commands get carried out in sequence. Apart from your basic attack, no abilities are mapped to any face buttons, so you frequently need to pause (though the action doesn’t stop entirely) and pull up an ability wheel to issue new orders..

Entertainment: ★★★★☆
George R.R. Martin collaborated with Cyanide to create the story and I got say it is as good as the books and will keep you coming back to see what is going to happen next?.

Replay Value: ★★★☆☆
I feel the game has a good replay value with all the choices you make throughout the entire game which effect how people react to you and of course the end game. Also replaying with different classes adds to a new experience. There are five different endings based on what you do in the last chapter, but the bigger changes occur throughout the adventure as characters are either present or absent based on how you treated them earlier.

MY PERSONAL REVIEW

Game of Thrones is split into chapters, and control alternates between two protagonists. Alester is a red priest returned from a 15-year exile in the east, and Mors is a skinchanger in the Night’s Watch. Though the two plotlines are initially unconnected, each story arc is full of interesting developments and surprising twists, making their eventual convergence quite satisfying.
Mor’s is a skinchanger so he can inhabit the body of his lovable dog and scare attackers with his mighty bark, or lunge at their throats with its chopping teeth. You can control your dog outside of combat as well, to track the scent of a fleeing coward or squeeze through a hole in the wall, and this adds some diversity to the exploration. The dog also has a skill tree to level up with Mors. Certain animations for the kill scenes are quite entertaining. In many RPGs, good loot can make some long fought battles worth the wait but that doesn’t happen in Game of Thrones. Nearly all of the good items from shops are unattainably expensive until the game is practically over, leaving you to scavenge for gear suited to your particular armor and weapon specialties. Overall I feel Game of Thrones is purely story fleshed out through its two characters as you delve deeper into all its lore. If you enjoy great story telling with a lack of good game mechanics than you cant go wrong with Game of Thrones.



2 Tweaks I found that greatly improved the game for me are:
**Turn on Vsync**
Edit configuration file
Go to %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Game of Thrones\UnrealEngine3\AGOTGame\Config
Open AGOTEngine.ini with a text editor.
Find a line: UseVsync=False.
And change it to: UseVsync=True to enable Vsync.

**Adjust the Field of View**
Edit input configuration file
Go to %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Game of Thrones\UnrealEngine3\AGOTGame\Config
Open AGOTInput.ini with a text editor.
Find the section [Engine.PlayerInput]
At the end of it, add the following lines:
Bindings=(Name="F1",Command="FOV 75",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F2",Command="FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F3",Command="FOV 120",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Modifiy FOV values to your preference if needed and save.
Launch a game.
While in game, press F1, F2 or F3 to change FOV.

Hope this helps as I found both work and make the game alot better.
