Daymian you probably won't get this. But you should consider refluffing the Witchdoctor class from More Magic and Mayhem. It focusses on brewing potions so you can cut the "I'm a wizard" part out and skip all those "Why is a graduated wizard first level?"

Daymian that was a surprisingly deep and well thought out character background. I really quite like it. I am sorry I did not tell you in person, but I was actually at work at the time.
