I thought glencoe2004 was joking. But.. seems Skyrim:SE just pushed an update aimed at paid mods.

What do you mean by "groups fighting for free software"? Not to start a debate, but this group was about paid mods and how that can snowball into bad stuff, such as decline in mod quality, mods turning into DLC, and corporations/publishers pushing for closed modding systems so free mods aren't possible (and stamping out the tradition of modders making mods purely out of interest for the game and/or wanting to improve/expand a game how they see fit, instead of for profit). The discussion was never about taking away the ability for programmers to make money. What "free software" are you wanting to fight for?
Loxa 4 Jun, 2021 @ 2:19pm
Are there any more groups fighting for free software ?

good old Bethesda lol, and many others are following suit even more so now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EiCP2EtLO0

not only are they blocking free modding so they can set up this paid system, but now a days they are releasing their games half done and full of crap knowing the modders will fix it so everyone can enjoy the games, that way they keep costs low for production and get more from selling ppl the mods that fix their game and extend it. . . ridiculous
DG | Tom Da Bomb [S] [D] 17 Jan, 2019 @ 3:10am
was gonna make a group like this myself and found this one lol, glad to see everyone taking notice on the crappy practices lately in game devs, unfortunately theres really not anything that says they cant do things the way they have been

so its really just up to us the consumers making ourselves heard that we arent going to take that crap, if they want to make and sell their own stuff thats fine but let our talented community devs (modders) do their own thing also, but at the same time we should remember to remain reasonable as well or we wont get anywhere

Hytale might be the latest game to give paid mods a try. Started a thread about it in the discussions.

Hello here,

I just wanted to thank the community for all the mods they provided all these latest years, with many games. Some of them have been a huge improvement in my game experience & added dozen of hours of enjoyement.

I am really sorry that a company is trying to take that from you guys. I will support your cause & sign up your petition.

@Digby.exe Nah, we just haven't been nearly loud or aggressive enough. Many are still realizing this is a problem, while many more will learn. As much as abuse the gaming masses have put up with over the past decade with absurdly-overpriced DLC, on-disc "DLC", offline gameplay with online-only DRM, pre-order scams, season pass scams etc etc, there is only so much abuse consumers of video games can take. Larger portions of consumers will continue to get more pissed off as this continues. As they continue to take more and more out of our wallets for less and less, the gaming industry continues to recruit more numbers to our cause.

The war is only beginning.

The mods literally sell Bethesda games. They are already making money from the mods. Remove modding and see how well your games will sell beyond 6 months.
John_Arktor 4 Sep, 2017 @ 11:47pm
Vanilla Bethesda games have always sucked so hard that they are borderline unplayable without mods. They want us to pay for these ? OK, well no reason to buy their games amymore then.

Bethesda is just trying to use the modding community to make more money for themselves. They obviously dont care about modders getting paid. The creation club is just a scheme.

♥♥♥♥ the creation club.. "Is Creation Club paid mods?
No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like."

Aye, right then. W:anchor:s, they must think our heads are zipped up the back.

Digby 25 Jun, 2017 @ 5:15am
Since the Fallout 4 Unofficial Patch is on the Creation Club, doesn't that mean it's no longer unofficial? And subsequently, doesn't that also mean that the bug fix dlc is now a reality?
iarri 20 Jun, 2017 @ 10:38am
oh and to respond to the not bringing back paid mods... yes that's exactly what this is... the minute it goes live there will be many mods which have been around for years suddenly vanish off the community store and will become paid corrupting hundreds of saves, likewise with no real quality control in place, there will be a crap ton of new mods pop up for pay that are incomplete or just plane garbage.... and last but not least, there's no incentive to create free mods once paid mods exist...so over a very short period of time you will not be able to get mods for free that are worth anything... the whole system is nothing more than a money grab and a community divider.... it was a bad idea in 2015, and it's a bad idea now... it's just plain greedy asshattery
iarri 20 Jun, 2017 @ 10:33am
Bloody unbelievable... back here again... why can't they get the message that this ISN'T WHAT ANYONE BUT THEM WANTS!?... at this rate some of us will need blood pressure meds and perhaps some whiskey just to prevent our heads from exploding in a moment of rage.

Having created content for other games over the years (not on steam though) I can say that I have NEVER done it for the money, but because I love the games I've modded and ENJOY doing it, that is my reward.... Greedy $*@( licks like this aren't after "Fair" anything, they're after more $$$ at the expense of the modders and mod users... you really think the modders will be paid fairly or get to keep the rights to the work they've done?.... if you think that you have a screw loose!
Count Grishnackh (Cyber) 19 Jun, 2017 @ 5:19pm
Paid mods are paid mods
Luigi McDingle 19 Jun, 2017 @ 4:39pm
Guys. They're not bringing back paid mods. The Creation Club is just a platform for people to publish their contributions to games for money. They add tons of content, so they're basically mini-DLCs. You can still get mods for free. Your cause is invalid.

You can use the steam group page via announcements and create an announcement that is notified to all members of the group.

Also, I do doubt that the petition will work, since Bethesda universally won't and can't do paid fan created content correctly, I mean, it CAN be done, but you need people who want that money to go to the modders, and they would likely ignore the petition.

Anyone but Bethesda can get the idea of making a vision of profit for modders to do what they love doing is achievable, but Bethesda, they just can't do it, just like how they could barely make a decent Fallout game these recent years.
Sir Lord Wololo 14 Jun, 2017 @ 2:08am
Is there a way to notify all the members in this group to sign the petition?
Karstaag 13 Jun, 2017 @ 5:11pm
Well, looks like I'm not the only one who's been shadowbanned. There's like only 3 reviews mentioning paid mods on the store page.
Karstaag 13 Jun, 2017 @ 1:50am
@Fizz Soda I went back and checked my negative review from 2015 and steam said there was no review. Then I tried posting a new review and it said that the old review got updated. I removed it and tried posting it again but it didn't show up in the recent reviews...
