Fate Stay Night is the best visual novel since Dr Romani's loveless internet idol stalker life. The prologue lasts for 6 hours, each detail you can SMELL like Shirou taking a big fat turd and describing it in utmost textural delight. Is it necessary? Absolutely. Buy it right now or you will not become a hero of justice.

I watched a little of the prequel anime at some point, and while it was interesting at first, it just felt like there was way too much I should know about the lore. It's not bad, but I couldn't keep watching. Now I happen to be on a kick where I read every "important" VN from the past just to see if I can understand why it was so popular.

I'm pretty engrossed in it. So much that I stayed up reading in bed until I struggled to keep my eyes open. I forgot to have dinner too. (So yeah, about 8 hours of my playtime is probably just me having the game open while I fell asleep.

I'm not always a fan of the translation, but it's good overall.

I'd been a fan of the franchise for years, but had never gotten around to reading the original. Now that I have... Man, no wonder this is as well regarded as it is. It is an absolute emotional roller coaster in the best possible way. It had me howling with laughter, and crying like a baby, as I experienced what these characters went through.

So, to anyone who has even a passing interest in Fate, absolutely read the source material! It's easier than very now!

My only major issue with it is that there's quite a few typos throughout. Nothing that completely ruins it, but it does get pretty noticeable, and I hope they fix that eventually. I know they released 1 patch to fix text, but could do with another proofreading session.
