Introduction
This guide addresses the most common issues people have with Deadly Premonition outside of crashes. This game is too good to have your experience interrupted or cheapened, so I truly hope that these tips will be of use to you.
Low Frame Rate
After I launched Deadly Premonition for the first time I experienced a very choppy framerate. Since I have DPfix installed, I figured I could improve performace by editing settings within DPfix.ini. If you have a modern PC and expect that it should run at 60 FPS with no problem, don't even bother to change any settings. You could set everything to minimum and it probably wouldn't help at all. What does help however is a simple reboot. Remember how "back in the day" we used to have to reboot after installing any program? Apparently Deadly Premonition is nostalgic like that.

A common suggestion you might see is to try running DP.exe in Windows 98 Compatibility Mode (or other modes). However, if you've read my crash guide, you'll know that I don't recommend running this game in any type of Compatibilty Mode. My frame rate steadily declined running it in any of those modes, while in my standard Windows 10 mode it ran at 60 FPS the entire time.
Character Can't Aim Properly
Check to see if you're running DP.exe in Windows XP Compatibility Mode. Aiming issues seem exclusive to Windows XP mode. If so, disable the Compatibilty Mode and run the game normally.
Save Failed Error
1. Open the Steam folder in which Deadly Premonition is installed and look for a folder called "savedata". If you've encountered this error, you will likely find it to be absent.

2. Create a "savedata" folder in the installation folder.

3. Launch the game and attempt to save again.
Controller Undetected in the Launcher
1. Open Windows Start screen/Start menu (bottom left), type joy.cpl into search and press ↵ (Enter).

2. Click Advanced.

3. Ensure your controller is set as the preferred device.

4. Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
Launcher Options Constantly Scroll Up
Remove all possible Bluetooth devices, such as a Wii Remote.
Poor Audio Mix and Brake Sound While In a Car
These are common problems for those running a 5.1 audio setup. In Windows, in the configuration menu of your sound device, change the setting from 5.1 to "Stereo".
Conclusion
After following my current Deadly Premonition guides, I'm confident that the only remaining issues you'll experience will be weird controls, less than stellar graphics (in places), and awful driving physics. With the exception of the graphics, I am working towards improving the remaining two areas, so stay tuned for possible future guides.

The speakers are set to stereo but the sound with the brakes persists. Any other fix for it?

You're welcome, my friend! Linked at the end, right above the comments here ^, is the main guide, the one I made after I finally made it past the crashes. Both guides may be useful, but that one probably more so. PM me if you have any problems and I'll try my best to help.

Thanks for the guide. I recently bought the game and the guide worked like a charm for me. I am playing on Windows 10.

I did everything, not helping. Only problem is with cinematics. I played this game years ago, cracked version with no problems but didn’t finish. It was directors cut. I wanted to purchase it now I can’t play it because of cinematics... many people played without problems I read...

Sorry guys, I don't know off hand, but will see what I can find out. It's been a while since I installed and played this. In the mean time, check out my other guide "How To Easily Minimize Crashes in Deadly Premonition" if you haven't already, perhaps that will help. It's linked above ^ in the conclusion.

Bizarre that this guide for a 2010 game got two unique comments in one day. Anyways, I am having trouble even starting up the game. Owned it on 360 but just bought the PC port, and after installation, I can open the launcher but once I try to start the game I get hit with "[location of the game on my PC] is not a valid win32 application" and then it closes out. Got any tips?

I have freezing cinematics and no sound. When it somehow gets sound the cinamatics are choppy and sound is laggy.
