How To Use the Steam Mobile Authenticator Without A Smartphone
By Satoru
http://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=581563653

Please refer to my WinAuth guide since that's more lightweight and easier to use given that it now supports Trade Confirmations. The original article is perserved in case something changes with regards to WinAuth

--------------------------------------------
So you want to use the Steam Mobile Authenticator. Especially now that Steam has introduced trade delays if you don't have it. Security be damned but you need to trade! What can you do?

Fear not there are ways to basically emulate an Android device so you can launch a version of the authenticator on your computer.

Then you can not only authenticate using it, but also do trade confirmations as well!

Lets get started!

Use WinAuth Instead of Android Emulator
http://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=581563653

WinAuth as of 3.4.2 now supports Trade Confirmations so its more lightweight and better alternative to an Android emulator.

I'll preserve the guide in case something with WinAuth changes.
Using Google Play To Ensure You Download The Correct App
I will be going over a few basics here. Basically we'll be installing an application that emulates an Android device. This allows us to do one critical thing

INSTALL A VERIFIED VERSION OF THE APP FROM THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE

I guarantee hackers are right now crafting 'fake' versions of the app to entice you to 'install' on your device to steal your credentials! Don't fall for that! This is the reason we are going to install an Android Emulator and ONLY download from the Google Play store itself. This ensures you get the official app and not some hacker's trojan. Don't fail at the security race right from the beginning! Only download from the Google Play Store!

I've seen other recommendations of emulators but they require you to side load the APK file by downloading it from <yeah this is totally not my trojan URL trust me! Really trust me! HAHA SUCKAH YOUR INVENTORY IS MINE>. This opens you up to downloading a trojan instead of the official app! Getting it from the Google Play store eliminates this possiblity
Download and Install Andy
My previous version of the guide used a program that I now find to be very naggy and not worth using. So I've changed it to a more popular distribution Andy. My apologies for my previous suggestion.

http://www.andyroid.net/

Click the "Download" link at the top bar

Download the app and Install

Go to Start-Programs-Andy-Start Andy
Get The Steam App
Click "OK" in the bottom right to get around the initial screen

Click the bottom right icon which is the Google Play Store

You need a Google Account to access the Google Play Store. Either

1) Click New to create a new Google Account
2) Click "Existing" to use an existing Google Account

Uncheck "Keep this tablet backed up" click the Arrow

Type "Steam" in the search bar of the Play Store

Check that the app is called "Steam" and the publisher is "Valve Corporation". Its important not to install a fake/copycat app that will likely steal your credentials

Click Accept

Click Open to open the Steam App

Register The App - Shameless Plug For My Other Guide
Now that you've got the app running on an Android emulator congrats!

Now in a shameful display I will refer you to my other guide, that will help you through registering the app and getting everything set. Please read over all the things in my other guide while setting it up. Its important to understand how the Authenticator works, and how to get out of sticky situations!
Running the Steam App
When you relaunch the Andy application click the "Entertainment" icon in the upper right

From there click "Steam" to launch the app again.
