[Park]TOD_4x8_Pier_Mid-Section

Beskrivning
[Park]TOD_4x8_Pier_Mid-Section by templeofdoom

This is the first installment in my hopeful pier park set. This is the "interior piece" and I aim to make several more pieces including the end pieces (left and right) and hopefully a couple of nifty curved pieces or something in the coming weeks. This asset can be found in the PARKS menu and is a fully ploppable on surface asset (shore or ground). This asset was a lot harder to make than it may seem - it took a full day of tweaking the angles to figure out how the shoreline works and alters/conforms an asset. You'll notice some of the screen shots may show the asset at the angle but this rights itself when plopped on a shore. Again, maybe 8+ hours of testing different plop modes, terrain, origin points, and asset placement on the plot size in the asset editor to figure this stupid system out. :D

There are several props I've used on this asset that you should download to make this a more well rounded and good looking asset. Please see the side bar. You don't have to subscribe to these props to make this asset work but it makes it look better.

Eventually if time is on my side I'd like to convert this basic pier into more of a "industrial" style pier - maybe retexture the model with more of a industrial feel to it. Who knows at this point. Please enjoy this in your cities.

NOTE!!!

You will probably want to use the terraform mod to help flatten the areas behind the asset. There are some steep inclines on the shore and beaches that will not make this asset look good and will be a bit askew. In those cases use the terraform mod tool to help flatten and ease the terrain to work best. A good tip is to find the "sweet spot" going in and out of the water when plopping to get the pier pylons into the water but also have the platform flat.

Model Properties

See picture slides for more model info.

Tris: 1,516 / Textures: D/N/S/A x1024

Auto Generated LOD by the game's engine. This pier is a square and the LOD looks perfectly fine made by the game.

This asset has parking and a walkway built into the back side of the asset. You can utilize these in conjunction with "daisy chaining" multiple piers together to form one long large pier. I've included a quick picture at an easy way to align them. Note that immediately after placing you might get flooding icons, this is typical. Let the game run for a while and you should see these disappear. If not, delete and replace closer to shore.

I hope you enjoy the asset, rate if up if you like! Comments & suggestions are welcome. I'm not sure what stats to put on this asset. If you have a desire to see a specific stat on this please comment and I'll consider any and all requests for an update in the future.

A couple of previews of the first end cap. Optimizing and tweaking textures - hope to have the next installment ready in a couple of days!

I think there are a lot of cliff side versions out there already. Such as sunken walls and some pier assets I have listed in my collections. This is different from those. :)

Thanks @Shroomblaze! Yah at first I didn't really think about the other altitudes of cliffs and shores and primarily tested this on flatter beaches. I don't think they'll work on anything but a gradual incline due to the angle I set the model at. Maybe I'll try to do variations if I can figure out more how to model these assets for the angles of the shore a bit more systematically instead of this trial and error business I did for this one.

Fantastic work, looking forward to seeing other pieces. At first I wasn't too sure because I was trying to use it on terraformed cliffs, but then I tried a gradual beach surface and it worked perfect. Here's my successful attempt at trying it out. http://i.imgur.com/veR9QdL.jpg :chirp:

No problems! I'll be looking forward to see the result. I could really use something like this in my current projekt, it's so heavy on waterfront that it gets redundant all over.

It's really cool that you appreciate feedback btw. I haven't looked into the modding scene myself, so I can't really help on the technical side, however, I'm pretty mod/asset heavy (and I thought I would be a vanilla player in the beginning... lol), so I'll happily test it in the future :)

Since I am very adamant about making a series of these piers I will for sure look into better ways to plop this. Thanks for your suggestions, sometimes I don't know which way to go until I hear from people! :)

Thank you @rrydbirk! Maybe I need to learn more about those - I've encountered a big issue with the angle of the pier that comes off the shoreline. The issue I'm having is the shore lines have an inherent angle and that the plot size will either "flatten" it - which makes land stick out beyond the pier rendering it stupid looking or it will not flatten it and conform to the land making it veryh curvey and angled - not straight at all. I will say I have limited playing time with those mods you mentioned and it may be one of those things I need to investigate.

Hey! This is really cool looking but I think it's a shame that is has to be placed this way. Have you looked into assets like Sunken Walls (either the road versions or the plopable versions)? They are always straight no matter the slope of the ground below - I believe you could do the same and remove much of the pain to place these and make them sparkle! :)
