The Cascade-class destroyer is the watchdog of any fleet it's attached to. The craft functions as an outrider, intercepting enemies before they can flank the less-maneuverable vessels in the center of whatever formation it has been assigned to, whether that's a carrier group or a freighter convoy. The Cascade is also capable of independent operations; its large cargo capacity has caused some to call it "a warship that thinks its a freighter," while its dual assemblers allow it to maintain itself in the field as long as it has refined materials or salvage available.
The Cascade's turreted weapons are quite sufficient to allow it to hunt down any smaller craft that might threaten its charges, but its real teeth lie in the trio of rocket launchers in the nose of the vessel. With full ammunition, these can put down a withering volley of fire, and make the Cascade a real threat even against larger vessels.

The Mk. III features a few improvements upon the Mk. II. The docking ports have been updated once again to fit the revised system used by the Joint Provincial Fleet. A pair of gyroscopes have been added to improve its turn rate. A number of components have been relocated to simplify the interior and make crew movement less arduous. All of these modifications have come at a price, however: the vessel is over a hundred-thousand kilograms more massive, and its time to maximum velocity is more than a second greater than that of the Mk. II.

ALRIGHT! Let's try this whole commenting business again. I left the last one on Whiplash's version of your destroyer by accident.

"I needed a ship to test out Darth Biomech's mass driver, and your destroyer looked perfect >:D

So I stripped down some exterior features so I could retrofit it with the heaviest of weapons. Thought you'd enjoy seeing a screenshot of the prototype vessel.

Fingers crossed! I wouldn't even care if their functionality were removed. They make a vital decorative element, that's just being filled with the corridor blocks as a rough stand-in since we don't have ladders.

Yeah, the weight is a definite drawback to the small reactors. I'd have to say that the increased durability is worth the tradeoff, but it does have a bit of a hefty price tag.

As far as the ladder-thing goes, I believe they were having some sort of bug-related difficulty with them. Something to do with the player getting out of sync with the ship when it was moving, or something like that.

However! This is a quote from Marek Rosa, the lead developer for Space Engineers, as of August:

"There were many technical issues with ladders, it’s not a simple item, but I was discussing this with one of my colleagues the other day and he said we should be able to do them properly now because we are learning more and more about the entirety of Space Engineers, so we are definitely smarter now than we were six months ago. Today we are able to do better and without the previous issues. "

So here's hoping!

Side note: did they ever give a reason as to why the ladders were removed? I think it's a shame they're gone. Even if they served only as decorative items they would have been well worth it.

All those small reactors are probably part of why it was so unwilling to be disabled. Admittedly, that adds to its weight pretty heavily compared to using large reactors, but it makes it nearly impossible to disable.

Impressive damage, Whiplash! But you are apparently no match for the Dwarf-Lord's construction skills!

I knew the Cascade was durable, but I didn't realize it was -that- resilient; that torpedo you hit it with is almost a ship in its own right! o.O It's very good to know that the lattice of heavy armor and distributed systems are working out, since I've been planning on continuing to use those. Loved the screenshots you put up. :)

Good God this ship is a resilient little bugger. I decided to use this ship to test the effectiveness of my Gravity Accelerated Inertial Torpedos. I had tried it before on various capital ships and succesfully disabeled them with 1 or 2 hits. Your ship took 5 bloody hits and refused to go down [metaphorically speaking]! So what did I do? I hit it with 2 more straight to the bridge, but to no avail. Your combo of light and heavy armour is very effective. Even after eating 7 torps I could still accelerate to full speed and decelerate with dampners without overloading. I love this ship.

Thank you, Psyop. Here's hoping the thinness pays off; I'm hoping a narrower profile will help it evade fire when it brings its rocket launchers to bear on the enemy.

My favorite by far. This ship is very efficent when it comes to the use of its slim design.
