Tank Playground
By UnlivingGnome
Tank Playground is a very difficult map. Very fun, but very hard. I've decided to make a guide for people that are new to the map. This guide WILL NOT be of use to anybody that is very new to the Left 4 Dead series. This guide will be going over a couple of spots that people either (A. Don't know about or (B. Should really know if they plan to play. There is a graph of weapon damage on Tanks, and I will also recommend my setup for running through the map.

Tank Playground is a map made by obez :)

Objective
The objective of Tank Playground is, obviously, to survive multiple Tanks for about ten minutes without dying. There are three rescue locations, lots of supplies scattered about, and your choice of weapon at the spawning point in the map. Dodging rocks on this map is neccessary to survival and knowing your way around your map (and hopefully not hanging off a ledge dying slowly) will help you a lot. This guide will be going over some key locations in the map and what weapons I believe are most helpful.

Information on Tanks
The Tank's health changes depending on what difficulty you play on. The Tank's health is 3000 on easy, 4000 on normal, and 8000 on both advanced and expert. The Tank does 24 damage on easy and 75 when pounding a incapped survivor. On advanced mode, a Tank does 50 damage per hit and 100 when pounding a incapped survivor. On expert mode, a Tank can incap a survivor in one hit and does 150 damage when pounding a incapped survivor.

Important Locations!
There are some very important locations you should will need to go to in this map. You don't want a friend to tell you where they are downed/dead at for you to go "...Where do I GO?! D:"

This, my friends, is the elevator. It's not a elevator for practical use (elevating) but it is a great deathtrap for friends and foes alike! The button on the inside of the elevator (closer to the middle) will take you up, giving you some protection from tanks on ground level. The button farther from the middle takes the elevator down, killing anything and everything caught there.

This is the glass bridge. Do you see the three pieces of glass that make this bridge? They're breakable. Just a couple of shots (and by that I mean quite a few shots) and this thing will break and take anything down with it. It's still usable after that (the wood walkways on both sides of it) and is a one time use trap for tanks. Be careful running from tanks on it since if you get hit by a Tank's rock it can break the glass under you (I don't know how but it works).

Behold the great rescue room! This room is where any "drowned" survivors will go after dying. Drowned is the term for any survivor that is knocked in/ falls into the water. It has 5 (five) defib units inside it. Please note that survivors will not instantly be teleported here after they drown. It's a short delay before it happens.

Not many people know about this spot (or atleast I believe so) this spot may look like a deathtrap, but it actually has a small piece of glass that you can land on. This is what the inside looks like.

Now it's time to go over the evacuation locations!
The first one is in the middle, exactly where the first tanks spawn! There are stairs to get onto the roof if you haven't noticed.

This spot is on the opposite side of the map than the rescue closet. If the rescue closet was North east, this would be the south west side of the map.

This is the last spot! This spot is close to the rescue closet. If you walk from the closet to the elevator trap (mentioned earlier) then you can probably see this spot.

Two minigun locations, both with a table of supplies nearby (although the table for one of the miniguns is out of shot, but still extremely close by)
Escape Plans
There's probably going to be a time where you're in a tight spot and need a way out. I've gotten images of some areas and some routes you might take to get the heck out of there.

If you get a Tank around here, you can either take the stairs and go right towards the middle of the map, go foward and towards one of the evac zones of the map, or turn around and fight the tank or run past him if all the other routes are blocked. I'm going to note here that the stairs have a table of supplies next to them, If you need something.

If you get stuck on the higher spot ( It has supplies there ) you can just hop down onto the lower area where my pistol is pointing at. Either that or get punched into the Deep Blue Sea by a tank. Your choice :)

If you have Tanks on your trail you can get onto this ladder. It takes at least 40 health or a adrenaline shot to get there, as any lower health (and speed) and you cant make the jump. From the ladder you can go up and you can go either left (where the first image in this section was taken) or right (toward one of the evac zones and some supplies)

If Tanks are blocking your path here, you can either take jump onto the wooden platform with blood on it or try and squeeze your way past a couple of tanks. Your choice :P

You can either jump onto the right ledge (which will lead you to a minigun) or to the left where you can jump down near the elevator trap.

There are a lot of places you can go here. Either go up the ladder past the helipad and up the path to the left, or get off the helipad and into the glass tower (where you have two paths to choose from) or you can take the stairs down and run towards the middle map or you can take the wooden path connecting to the stairs and take them to the rescue closet area. Or get knocked into the ocean and under the seaaaaa.

Hopefully this guide has helped you know where you can go if Tanks are closing in. I've taken what I think are common spots and shown you the paths you can take away from there and hopefully into something that isn't a Tank.
Explosive Barrel Locations!
We all love explosions. Everybody does. You know what would be cool? Knowing where all the explosive barrels are! So here are the locations of all the barrels on the map!

(Why are some of the pictures here wierd now? I dunno, blame Valve.)

What should I use?
My preferred loadout on this map is a Desert Rifle (SCAR) with lazer sight, magnum, molly, medkit and a adrenaline shot. The adrenaline shot helps you get distance between Tanks and revive your team faster, as well as gives you a good boost of health (25 health)! The Scar has good range, accuracy and damage and has the largest clip of the assault rifle family. You can use ANY weapon you want for the Tank Playground, but I recommend not using a shotgun. The last thing you want to do is to get closer to a Tank! However, shotguns do very good knockback on Tanks, but they aren't good at fighting multiple Tanks or fighting at a long range. This is a very large map, and shotguns won't be nearly as effective as a assault rifle over a large distance. I also recommend you don't use a melee weapon. They aren't worth the risk for the damage they do.
What should I practice to get better?
This is an easy question to answer. You're going to want to practice dodging tank rocks. Why? You get no moment of invulnerability getting back up after getting hit, and you can get wombo comboed.
(Showed below)

End
Now that you have the knowledge to go around kicking tank ass (or getting your ass beat by tanks) you can now hopefully survive Tank Playground. If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I'll try to answer them. If this guide helped you make PLEASE be sure to give the guide a thumbs up and favorite!

LATEST UPDATE - 9/13/2014
Replaced some pictures (not all of them, that takes too much effort) with a similar variant, without hud/weapon showing. For some odd reason, some of the pictures presented are smaller than they should be and appear awkward in the formatting. No idea why it's done that, because I put the picture in the same as all of the others are put in. Ah well. Deal with it.

Oh, well I am aware some tank mods can be server-side. If you were on a server you weren't hosting, that'd definitely be a possibility for mods you weren't familiar with.

Modded tanks are something you'd find in the Steam workshop alongside this map or on third party websites like gamemaps.

how do i get the modded tanks again like the reverse flash tank

I know that tanks can get stuck on the explosive barrels in some instances that they're around corners. Also, they knock back and set on fire. They're a useful utility to have in mind.

Also, are explosive barrels useful at all? they stay in one spot and dont move but still do a bit of damage, do you recommend trying to lure tanks there?

I personally try to keep my distance with the tanks so the Ak's accuracy might not do so hot. The Scar's burst helps out a bit more with that. But yeah, use what you want to use! :buzzed:

The ak takes 12 seconds to kill a tank on normal and also takes less shots to kill a tank then the SCAR, wouldn't that make it a direct upgrade?
I mean, you use what you wanna use, right?:RUSINI:
