So you want to get better at Call Of Duty?
By Witquip
Well, I heard you wanted to get better at Call Of Duty! I can help you. By following these tips and tricks you will be almost guaranteed to play better in-game. Note that Black Ops 2 is quite different so all of the tips and tricks won't work here. I will be covering them in another guide.

For the newer players

  • To start everything off, to play you will need a class and here the most important thing is to play with something YOU LIKE, and not something that some guy told you to use. For example, if you play better with the Tar-21 than with the ACR, you use the Tar-21.
(unless of course, you like the acr better)

  • Secondly, you need to have some map awareness, even if you have the UAV up you can't automatically predict exactly where the enemies are OR if you can see all of the enemies. Since we're on about maps, you should stay on the outskirts of them and not in the middle and NEVER stay in the same position for too long, camping will not only get you hated but also killed. Try moving around after maybe several seconds in one area.

  • There has been a lot of discussions and a lot of inappropriate words about whether or not you should use the overpowered guns such as G18. This, in my opinion, is all really stupid. If you want to use it and it helps you play better, by all means, ignore the others and do so. Leave them to their setups in Search And Destroy. You're not cool just because you can quick scope.

  • One thing you can do to play better (works if you're going for the nuke too) is to play with a pre-made team that uses UAV and COUNTERUAV. The enemies should play worse and you better because you have a lot of advantages. Try finding a clan or some friends to play with (avoid the trolls).

There's only one rule to play better in any game. You need to have fun while playing it, raging will not make you improve and you will just get frustrated.

    For the more advanced players

  • One thing that matters in EVERY Call Of Duty game is the sound. A bad player jumps around carelessly, a decent player has map-awareness and a great player uses his headset and the sounds around him/her combined with map-awareness You'll be surprised by how much sound can help you win anything from gunfights to just helping you survive by knowing the enemy position.

  • This next thing is more optional, but you should try to learn the map and its hotspots, this will make you able to know where the enemies are and therefore give you the advantage, also you can almost always get first blood and some starter kills if you know where the enemies will spawn and you're better at aiming than the enemy.

  • You can also lure people to come to you instead of you sneaking up on them. Fire a few shots and every greedy person will go for that red dot on the map. If you have yourself placed well then you should pick off an easy kill (optional: You can use claymore or c4).

  • Try and move when you're firing, if you do this you'll make it harder for your enemy to hit you (requires you to be decent at aiming). If you know how to drop-shoot, you can also do that if the enemy is at a closer range.
(To drop-shoot you fire while at the same time go into prone).

  • If you're after that better K/DR then you will need to use a good set of killstreaks to earn you those extra kills. Air support is really good if you are only after the kill death ratio and a killstreak setup I would recommend using is Predator Missile -> Harrier Airstrike -> Pavelow. The air-support should hopefully get you a decent amount of kills and will raise your self-esteem allowing you to get more kills (this is true).

  • You need to use your sights! A lot of people make the common mistake of hip firing (not using the sight you have on the gun). If you learn to use always use the sight, EXCEPT FOR CLOSE-QUARTERS, you will improve.

  • Now, let's say you're using your sight but you still can't get the kill thanks to the recoil. Well then think of this: You don't have to hold down your mouse button, you can just click it once to fire one bullet at a time, your accuracy will improve and you will not have as much recoil (On most weapons)

---------------------------------------------------------------------Problems and how to fix them----------------------------------------
So your minimap or throwing knife crosshair is gone? Not a problem, it's really easy to fix:

First, you want to find and go to your Steam folder; C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players (May not be C:, depends on where you saved Steam). Once there you will see a file called config_mp file just delete it. This will cause the game (MW2) to remake the maps and crosshair for you. No, you will not lose any progress and this is not cheating. Just a fix to a problem you should not even get.

Easy step by step guide on how to get your minimap back:
    1. Located ''Program Files (X86)'' and click the Steam folder.
    2. Click the ''SteamApps'' folder.
    3. Click the ''Common'' folder.
    4. Click the ''Call of duty modern warfare 2'' folder.
    5. Click the ''Players'' folder.
    6. Delete the file called ''config_mp''
    7. Launch your Modern Warfare 2 and have fun!

Nice guide! I would add lowering the in-game mouse sensitivity and mouse's dpi overall. I personally use the lowest in-game sensitivity and set my mouse's dpi to 500. Also don't ever rage. It never helps but lowers your KD. Map knowledge is also everything in COD. Knowing which walls to penetrate is essential. And also attempting to predict what enemy players would do or where to go helps a bunch. +rep for the guide overall. Pretty solid.

I mean when I played other games. I would rack up kills but in old cods I can't and found out that the old cods (waw, bo1&2, mw2) all use window's natural mouse acceleration (which can make people choke when flicking. Just turn off "Enhanced Pointer Precision."
