not the best guide but hopefully helps someone in need.

Tldr:
1 Play safe at the beginning,
2 Study the enemy's attack patterns and habits,
3 Once you're learned them, lure or wait for a combo you know,
4 Parry/dodge,
5 Counter.

Eventually you can get to a point you dodge/parry a move instinctually. Slow ones like knee jabs or even horizontal or vertical swipes. Practice makes perfect.

This strategy also applies to the windfall dodges, too, patience and observation! Although stagger style will usually always mess you up until you memorize the patterns. But that's what alternate moves are for- shaking it up. :B1:

Hey, helped me a lot, i know i will not be better overnight, but that gave me a better notion how to parry, thank you.

Of course. Wont deny that you will be better by playing XD. But reaction time can't really be trained that much, so some players will always have a bit more advantage. I figure that you just have to remember all the moves blocks though.

@Nicolai well that's what skill is about. better players have better reaction times and reflex than others...

The problem is that it gives you very little reaction time to actually choose the right dodge
